Otoplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure that deals with correcting or improving the size, shape, or position of the visible outer ear called the Auricle. The auricle consists of cartilages covered under the skin.
A deformity or a defect caused to the auricle by birth or by a major injury can be surgically correct using this procedure.
Otoplasty creates a natural symmetric profile which will complement the facial features. Some find it unhappy with protruding ears and get a “Ear Job” done.
Otoplasty procedures have different types such as;
- Ear Reduction – This name is self-explanatory; some people or children are born with large ears. This can lower the confidence and self-esteem of individuals. Patients with Macrotia are suitable for this type of procedure.
- Ear Augmentation – This procedure is done for patients who have under developed or small ears.
- Ear Pinning – This procedure is meant for patients whose ears stick out from the sides of the head. A Simple procedure to draw back the ears closer to the head is done.
